Syria Calls for Global Action on Israeli Strikes, Revival of 1974 Pact
Speaking at a press conference following an informal meeting with EU officials in the Greek Cypriot Administration, he appealed for stronger international involvement, saying: “Nonetheless, I would like to invite the international community to assume its responsibility vis-a-vis all the Israeli aggressions of all types … that are striking in our lands and territories. And to go back to the resolution of 1974,” he said.
He also emphasized that Syria’s internal stability is closely tied to broader regional and European security interests, arguing that closer cooperation between Syria and Europe has become increasingly necessary amid ongoing geopolitical and economic pressures.
“We know that Europe needs Syria as much as Syria needs Europe,” he said. “It is inevitable … in order to guarantee security and also the supply chains in the world.”
The Syrian president further stated that stronger European engagement with Syria’s security and stability would help curb what he described as Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and contribute to ending cross-border hostilities.
