US Strikes Iranian Missile Positions Near Key Maritime Route

(MENAFN) The United States military announced on Tuesday that it conducted airstrikes targeting Iranian missile installations situated close to the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, utilizing powerful “deep penetrator” weapons designed to hit fortified locations.

"Hours ago, U.S. forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz," US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in an official release shared via the US-based social media platform X.

“The Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles in these sites posed a risk to international shipping in the strait,” the statement further explained, emphasizing the potential danger these weapons represented to global maritime traffic.

Iranian officials did not immediately respond or issue any statements regarding the reported attacks.

The Strait of Hormuz is widely recognized as one of the most crucial energy transit points worldwide, as a large share of the planet’s oil supply moves through this narrow passage.

This waterway has remained a focal point of international energy security worries, particularly after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared restrictions on most shipping traffic there, a move described as retaliation for US-Israeli military actions that commenced on February 28.
