China Says It Shares EU’s Views on Multipolar World, Calls for Stability

(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that Beijing and the European Union hold similar positions regarding a multipolar world and called for stability amid a “turbulent” international environment, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Speaking by phone with Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, Wang noted that the global situation had “undergone significant changes” at the start of the new year, with increasing “turbulence.”

“As independent and sovereign major countries, China and France should strengthen communication and coordination, jointly inject much-needed stability into the world, and better leverage the strategic value of China-France relations,” Wang said.

He described China and the EU as “partners, not rivals,” pointing to five decades of “fruitful cooperation” as evidence. Wang highlighted that both sides share “similar or identical positions on many issues, including promoting a multipolar world,” while stressing that “specific trade disputes” can be resolved through dialogue.

“Under the current circumstances, it is especially important for China and the EU to strengthen dialogue, build mutual trust, and deepen cooperation,” he added.

Wang also expressed hope that France would continue to play “a positive role within the EU and promote the sound and stable development of China-EU relations,” a stance Bonne reportedly supported.

Bonne, for his part, reaffirmed that France places great importance on its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.
