India Denies Bangladesh’s Claims Over Cross-Border Activities
On Sunday, Bangladesh summoned India’s high commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, to express what it described as concerns regarding ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allegedly being permitted to make ongoing “incendiary” remarks from Indian soil.
“We have consistently reiterated our position in favor of free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections being held in Bangladesh in a peaceful atmosphere,” the Indian Foreign Ministry stated on Sunday.
The statement emphasized that India has never allowed its land to be used for activities detrimental to the interests of the friendly people of Bangladesh.
Dhaka also reiterated its request for the extradition of Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal so they can face judgments by its judicial system.
Hasina and Kamal were sentenced to death by a Bangladeshi court in a crimes against humanity case after being found responsible for ordering a violent suppression of student protests in 2024.
Hasina, who escaped to India following the unrest, told a news agency in a recent interview that the court’s verdict was a “foregone conclusion.”
