China pledges to maintain ‘eternal friendship’ with Russia

(MENAFN) Beijing is eager to preserve “the original aspiration of eternal friendship” with Moscow, Chinese Premier Li Qiang told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday during talks at the Kremlin.

Li said China’s resolve to pursue mutually advantageous cooperation with Russia “have always been consistent,” according to state media.

Amid global uncertainty, he noted that Beijing aims to “further enhance the resilience of cooperation with Russia, consolidate and maintain the steady development (and) momentum of bilateral cooperation.”

He encouraged both sides to expand benefits such as visa-free travel, deepen public exchanges and understanding, and reinforce ties between their peoples.

“China stands ready to work with Russia to uphold the original aspiration of eternal friendship, enhance alignment of development strategies, deepen cooperation in various fields, achieve more practical results, so as to better serve the development and rejuvenation of the two countries,” Li said.

The premier arrived in Moscow on Monday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of Heads of Government meeting held the next day.

Putin said during his meeting with Li that the strong cooperation between the two nations within this framework had supported the SCO’s rise as "one of the pillars of a multipolar world order."

According to a Kremlin transcript of his opening remarks, he said both countries will continue to expand trade ties under established long-term plans and emphasized the need to ensure "reliable protection of our trade and economic cooperation from negative external influences."

He added that carrying out joint projects in sectors such as energy, industry, space and agriculture will push their partnership forward and reinforce its technological basis.

Putin also noted that China’s decision to allow visa-free entry for Russian citizens will strengthen contacts between their populations, adding that reciprocal measures in Russia will follow "very soon."

"I am confident that this will have very significant consequences in both the economic and humanitarian spheres. In my view, this will be a positive boost to the development of our relations," he said.
