Hurricane Melissa poses serious threat to life in Jamaica
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors for their safety.
Jamaica’s military and fire departments are prepared to conduct search and rescue missions once the hurricane moves past the island. “We have equipment that are pre-positioned. Once the request comes in, the team will be ready to go. We have boats, helicopters … you name it,” stated Desmond McKenzie, deputy chairman of the Disaster Risk Management Council, as reported.
