Pope Leo XIV Urges Global Leaders to End Wars
Addressing attendees at the conclusion of an interfaith gathering in Rome, the pontiff stated: “Conflicts exist wherever there is life, but we can neither manage nor resolve them through war.”
He encouraged political figures to initiate “a genuine and lasting period of reconciliation,” adding: “Let the wars end now.”
“The world is thirsting for peace,” the Pope noted, cautioning that humanity must not “grow accustomed to living with war.”
He characterized the termination of wars as “an unpostponable duty before God,” highlighting that peace should be “the foremost priority of all politics.”
The three-day forum, organized by the Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio under the slogan “Have Courage for Peace,” united representatives from various faiths and concluded with a moment of silence honoring victims of war and violence.
