China Initiates Two Probes into US Chip Industry
(MENAFN) China has initiated two separate investigations aimed at the US semiconductor sector, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Saturday.
The announcement came just one day before trade discussions between the two nations were scheduled to commence in Spain.
Washington has consistently accused China of engaging in unfair trade practices, including "intellectual property theft" and "forced technology transfer," whereas Beijing criticizes US export restrictions for "politicizing trade" and cautions that they "disrupt global supply chains and harm all involved."
The negotiations, which began on Sunday and will last four days, involve senior US and Chinese trade officials and represent the fourth round of talks in recent months.
These discussions aim to reduce mounting trade frictions between the world’s two largest economies.
The ministry stated that an anti-dumping probe has been launched targeting certain analog integrated circuit chips imported from the US.
This investigation will focus on specific commodity interface IC chips and gate driver IC chips, which are widely manufactured by US firms such as Texas Instruments and ON Semiconductor, a news agency reported on Saturday.
The second inquiry, an anti-discrimination investigation, centers on alleged US policies impacting China’s chip industry, according to the ministry.
